BuiltFirst 3D / Work / Ball valve

Ball valve, exploded view and cutaway

What it is

A flanged, trunnion-style ball valve I designed from scratch. In 16 seconds the bolts back out, the end caps slide off, the seats, ball and stem come out, it goes back together, and then a half-section shows the ball turn from closed to open with flow through the bore.

The same model also exports small enough for a phone, so a buyer can put the valve on a desk at real size.

How it was made

  • Model16 parts with beveled edges so every highlight reads: body, end caps, seat rings, ball, stem, bonnet, actuator, studs and nuts.
  • MaterialsOxide-red paint with worn edges, machined steel faces, a polished chrome ball and white PTFE seats.
  • MotionStaggered and eased: fasteners first, then the caps, seats, ball and stem. No part passes through another.
  • Render384 frames in Blender EEVEE, 2.3 seconds a frame on average. About 15 minutes.
  • WebThe same model exported at 290 KB for the AR files on iPhone and Android.
