Fog Street
A '70s sports car parked on a wet street at night, in fog thick enough to catch the headlights. Cut against its own viewport pass. Made in Blender.
Same frame, two passes
The finished render, or the scene as I build it.
Drag across the frame. On the left, the final render: fog, wet asphalt and real light. On the right, the same frame in Blender's viewport, in flat colors, the way the street looks while it's being built.
Frame 200 of 288. Same camera, same models.
RenderViewport
2,030 windows across 30 buildings. About three in ten are lit, picked at random.
The fog is a real volume that fills the street. The headlights and street lamps cut beams through it.
The road is wet. Puddles reflect at the index of water, 1.33, so the lights break up the way they do outside.
How it was made
One street, one script, one graphics card.
- 01
Scene
One script builds the whole street in Blender 5.2: 30 buildings, 2,030 windows, street lamps and trees, 909 objects in all. The car is a downloaded model, cleaned up and given new paint, glass and lamps.
- 02
Fog and water
A volume of scattering fog fills the street, so the light has a shape. The asphalt is wet, with puddles that reflect at water's index of 1.33.
- 03
Light
Cycles at 1080 by 1920 on one RTX 4060: 192 samples with denoising, 49 seconds a frame on average, 3 hours 55 minutes for all 288 frames.

Physics check
Every tire is measured from its real geometry, not its bounding box, and pressed 8 mm into the road for a loaded contact patch. The build stops if any wheel is more than 1 mm off.
